Suzanne Barakat: Documents of Unfathomable Trauma

With Suzanne Barakat

Asylum-seekers have been making headlines, but it’s rare that we get to read their stories. Our guest today, Suzanne Barakat, reads the stories of asylum seekers every day — in the scars on their skin, and the traumas they bring to the clinic she runs.

Suzanne is the Executive Director of the UCSF Health and Human Rights Initiative. Her primary program there is the human rights clinic. There, Suzanne and her team give pro bono medical evaluations. These evaluations help immigrants gain asylum. Her work there is almost as impactful as her story.
