Liz Canis, Former VP, Emerging Businesses & Partnerships, Anthem

Liz formerly led innovation and commercialization initiatives at Anthem.  She identifies and incubates emerging businesses and assets to differentiate Anthem and diversify sources of future growth.  She then constructs creative partnership, joint venture or investment strategies to quickly bring new solutions to market.  Liz works extensively with enterprise leaders to inspire a culture of experimentation and optionality, to fail small and fast and enable Anthem to respond to changing market conditions with greater agility and speed.

Prior to this role, Liz was responsible for facilitating the planning and direction of all operational, financial and administrative activities of the Office of the CEO.  Liz also oversaw Anthem’s strategic planning process to define the company’s business priorities and critical investments to generate sustainable, profitable growth for the enterprise. Additionally, Liz coordinated key Anthem innovation and strategic growth initiatives, partnering with senior business and functional leaders to effectively articulate business impact and execute across the organization.

Liz was formerly a Ventures Lead at Savvysherpa, a health care venture capital/innovation firm. Liz collaborated with internal research and data scientist teams to identify potential investment opportunities. She then engaged external partners to participate in a methodical experimentation and “de-risking” process to innovate healthcare blockbusters.

Liz is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Pivot Group where she oversaw a senior team of industry experts, innovators, and proven executives offering strategic consulting and advisory services to healthcare organizations and private equity companies.

Additionally, Liz spent eleven years at UnitedHealthcare in a variety of leadership roles. Liz began her career at Deloitte in Chicago.

Liz has a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University and a Masters in Business Administration With Distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.  In her spare time, Liz enjoys travel, yoga, competitive ballroom dancing, all things chocolate and spoiling her niece and nephew.
