Lewis Schwartz, Founder & Chief Medical Officer, Efemoral Medical
Dr. Schwartz is a vascular surgeon at Lutheran General Hospital in Niles, IL, and Prof. of Vascular Surgery at The Univ. of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL. In 2003, Dr. Schwartz joined Abbott Laboratories as Global Medical Director for Thrombolysis, and was subsequently named Divisional VP of the Abbott Vascular division. In that position, he directed several programs involving novel drug-device combinations for coronary and peripheral vascular disease, including initiation of the first clinical trials of drug-eluting, bioresorbable stents for the treatment of peripheral artery disease. Dr. Schwartz and his team successfully secured Abbott’s first indication for a peripheral drug-eluting stent. In 2013, Dr. Schwartz was named VP, Global Device Development, for Hospira, the world’s leading manufacturer of generic injectable pharmaceuticals and infusion pumps. At Hospira, he participated in restoring safety and regulatory compliance and reinvigorated the company’s medical device pipeline. He completed medical school at The University of Chicago, general surgical residency at Duke University, and vascular surgical fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Harvard).
