Anders Sideris, CEO & Co-Founder, Somnair

Dr. Anders Sideris is a medical doctor, inventor, biomedical innovator and physician-entrepreneur working at the intersection of medicine, surgery and engineering with a goal to create a world without ineffective, invasive and uncomfortable treatments for obstructive sleep apnoea, a disease affecting 1 billion people worldwide.

Dr. Sideris is currently a faculty member, innovation fellow and entrepreneur-in-residence at the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design where he leads and mentors teams to innovate and translate novel biomedical solutions for significant and unmet medical needs globally.

Pursuing his passion for biodesign and medical device innovation he moved to the United States to pursue a Masters of Biomedical Engineering, Innovation and Design at Johns Hopkins University which he completed in 2024. He serves as Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Somnair, a pre-clinical medical device company developing non-invasive neurostimulation technology for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Previously, Dr. Sideris worked in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery departments as a medical officer and research fellow in large academic hospitals in Australia. In these roles he led multidisciplinary teams in adult and paediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His clinical and translational research focused on head and neck cancer, obstructive sleep apnoea and drug delivery technology for diseases of the head, neck and upper aerodigestive tract.

During his surgical training he co-founded Release Therapeutics, a pre-clinical stage biotechnology start-up created to commercialise polymeric drug-delivery combination-device technology developed during his Masters of Science (Research) at University of New South Wales, which he completed in 2021.

Dr Sideris was an Associate Lecturer and Researcher in the University of New South Wales Prince of Wales Clinical School and Surgical and Orthopaedic Research Laboraties from 2016 – 2021 where he taught medical students, junior doctors and led clincial and translational research projects in multiple surgical disciplines. Dr. Sideris earned his Medical Degree at the University of Newcastle in 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) from the University of Newcastle.
