Dr. Peter Valenzuela is a respected physician leader, bestselling author, cartoonist, and educator. His writings and insights have been featured in Healthcare Design Magazine, Medical Economics, Modern Healthcare, and more. He’s also been featured in numerous podcasts, including Docs Outside the Box, KevinMD, and The ZDoggMD Show.  
 
Dr. Valenzuela has served on governor-appointed work groups in Texas and Washington, targeting healthcare quality, outcomes, affordability, and access. His forward-thinking approach has twice been recognized by the Medical Group Management Association and American College of Medical Practice Executives (MGMA-ACMPE) with the Harwick Innovation Award and Physician Executive of the Year Award.   
 
When not focused on leading large multi-specialty medical groups, Dr. Valenzuela channels his energy into advising digital healthcare startups. Peter also finds humor in the quirks of medical life through his comic strip, Doc-Related. His comics have been called “Dilbert for Health Care.” 
 
Peter attended medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas and completed his family medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned a master’s in business administration from Auburn University. In addition, Dr. Valenzuela holds certificates for Six Sigma in Healthcare from Villanova University, Design Thinking from IDEO U, and Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Duke University. He is also a certified trainer in the Innovator’s DNA method and recently completed the Digital Health Innovation program at Brown University.
