Alan Murray, President and CEO, MediDrive
Alan J. Murray is president and CEO of the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation company MediDrive. The company’s mission is to address the critical issue of transportaion as a social determinant of health capable of driving materially improved health outcomes by providing compassionate access to care. Reportedly 1 in 5 people in the United States will miss needed healthcare due to a lack of a vehicle or public transportation. It is estimated that $150 billion is the annual cost of missed medical appointments in the U.S.
MediDrive is a partner company of the Corporate Transportation Group (CTG), a successful transportation business that has included customers among leading U.S. corporations, para transit, municipalities, health insurers, and direct-to-consumer channels all backed by industry leading technology.
Alan is recognized in the healthcare industry for his leadership, deep industry expertise, and determination to enhance the system with innovation that benefits consumers, customers, provider, and health plan partners. He has experience in healthcare management, Medicare, Medicare Part D, physician relations, and quality improvement.
Prior to joining MediDrive, Alan was the President and CEO of Empire BCBS and Elevance Health’s President nationally for all labor, workers compensation and TPA business lines. Alan steered Empire through a period of significant growth for the company, while dealing with the impacts of Covid 19 across the state of NY.
Alan developed his entrepreneurial spirit as founding President and CEO of Northwell’s CareConnect Insurance Company, Inc., the first provider-owned commercial insurance plan in New York State. He built the foundation of his career over the course of a decade in roles with payers including Vice President, New York Market Lead at UnitedHealthcare and Regional Vice President, New York Provider & Ancillary Network Development at Empire. Most recently, he was president of Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s labor, student, niche, and JAA/TPA verticals.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Open University in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom and served as a Second Officer in the British Merchant Navy for six years. He enjoys listening to books about leadership, working out, and spending time with his wife, three children, and two dogs.
